EXPERTISE INFORMATION

Dr. Lee Ching Shya is a technology transfer practitioner and intellectual property professional with a strong scientific foundation and an international academic background. She holds dual PhDs in Chemical Engineering from the Universiti Malaya and École Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques (ENSIACET), specializing in renewable energy, biomass valorization, and electrochemistry. Her research journey reflects a deep commitment to advancing sustainable technologies and translating scientific discovery into real-world impact. She is a registered Chemist (ChM) with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) and has served as a Committee Member of the Division of Green & Sustainable Chemistry (DGSC), contributing to the advancement of green innovation in Malaysia.

 

Transitioning from academia to innovation leadership, Dr. Lee is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP), Registered Patent Agent (Malaysia), and Certified IP Valuer. She brings integrated expertise in IP protection, valuation, licensing, and commercialization strategy. As Director of the Universiti Malaya Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE), she oversees the university’s intellectual property portfolio and leads initiatives that transform research outcomes into scalable ventures, strategic industry partnerships, and high-impact spin-offs.

 

Beyond her institutional leadership, Dr. Lee actively shapes the national and regional innovation ecosystem. She currently serves as Vice President of the Licensing Executive Society Malaysia (LESM) and as a Committee Member of the Innovation and Technology Managers Association Malaysia (ITMA), collaborating with industry leaders to strengthen technology transfer practices and IP commercialization frameworks. As an HRDC-certified trainer, she mentors startups, trains IP professionals, and facilitates academia–industry collaborations, empowering innovators to unlock value from their ideas.

 

From structuring IP licensing deals and negotiating commercialization agreements to mentoring deep tech startups and building cross-sector partnerships, Dr. Lee’s work reflects her belief that meaningful innovation occurs when knowledge meets action. She remains steadfast in advancing science, intellectual property, and entrepreneurship as powerful drivers for sustainable economic and societal transformation.

IP VALUER ACHIEVEMENT

Dr. Lee Ching Shya is currently supporting the Universiti Malaya IP Office in conducting intellectual property valuations for licensing initiatives and assists university spin-offs and startups in assessing the value of their IP assets to support commercialization, investment discussions, and strategic decision-making.
