Process for producing higher grade zircon
This invention relates to a process for the production of ceramic-grade zircon from zircon mineral containing high iron, uranium and thorium impurities. More particularly, this invention involves a two-stage leashing technique to reduce the impurities level of zircon. In the first leaching stage, hydrochloric acid is used to remove the impurities. This followed by a second leaching stage, in which carbide waste is used to ultimately decrease the impurities level to the required limit. This invention is to improve the grade and quality of zircon minerals, minimize the cost of process and to conserve the environment by the use of recycle waste.
